Step-by-step setup
- Remove the packaging. Remove all protective packaging pieces and confirm that all parts and hardware are present before beginning assembly.
- Prepare the rear-wheel hardware. Use the included 5 mm Allen keys to remove the pre-attached axle hardware from the rear of the frame. Keep the hardware in the order in which it was removed.
- Install the rear wheel. Position one wheel between the rear frame arms, reinstall the axle and hardware through the aligned openings, and tighten both sides securely with the included Allen keys. Check that the wheel is centered, secure, and able to rotate freely.
- Prepare the front-wheel hardware. Use the included 5 mm Allen keys to remove the pre-attached axle hardware from the front fork. Keep the hardware in order.
- Install the front wheel. Position the second wheel between the fork arms, reinstall the axle and hardware through the aligned openings, and tighten both sides securely. Check that the wheel is centered, secure, and able to rotate freely.
- Attach the front fork. Remove the pre-attached hardware from the frame's front opening. Place the supplied rubber washer as shown in the manual, insert the front-fork stem upward through the frame, reinstall the upper washer and hardware, and secure the fork while keeping the front wheel aligned with the frame.
-
Attach the handlebar. Remove the pre-attached screw from the top of the front-fork stem. Position the handlebar over the stem with the grips aligned perpendicular to the front wheel, reinstall and tighten the M6 × 20 mm screw with a 5 mm Allen key, and press the plastic cap into place. Check that the handlebar is secure and turns in alignment with the front wheel.
Safety: Before every ride, check that the handlebar, front fork, and both wheels are securely attached and properly aligned. -
Install the batteries. Turn the bike upside down. On the underside of the frame, use the Phillips-head screwdriver end of an included tool to turn the battery-cover screw counterclockwise. Remove the cover and insert 3 AA batteries according to the positive and negative markings. Replace the cover and screw, tighten the screw clockwise, and confirm the cover is secure.
Warning: Do not mix old and new batteries or mix alkaline, standard carbon-zinc, and rechargeable batteries. -
Adjust the seat height. Pull open the seat-clamp latch and loosen the clamp knob counterclockwise with the included 5 mm Allen key. Raise or lower the seat until the seated rider can place both feet fully on the ground with a slight bend in the knees. Tighten the knob clockwise while holding the seat in place, close the latch, and check that the seat is secure.
Important: Never raise the seat high enough for the "minimum insertion" mark on the seat post to become visible above the clamp.Warning: Never ride unless the seat-clamp latch is closed and the clamp is tight around the seat post. - Complete the pre-ride checks. Confirm the handlebar is securely tightened, the handlebar and front wheel turn in alignment, both wheels rotate freely and are securely attached, and the seat is secure with the minimum-insertion mark hidden. Check the wheels for wear or damage and make sure the rider's helmet and protective gear fit correctly.
- Practice riding. While seated, push both feet against the ground to move forward. Lift both feet slightly to coast while keeping them ready to return to the ground.
-
Practice turning. While moving forward at a controlled speed, rotate the handlebar gently to the left or right. The 135-degree steering limit helps keep turns controlled.
Helpful tip: Begin in a wide, open area and have the rider practice short pushes, gentle turns, and brief coasting while an adult stays close. - Practice stopping. Place both feet flat on the ground to slow down and come to a complete stop.
Using the lights and storing the bike
The Light Rider Jr. Light-Up Balance Bike offers 4 lighting patterns in 8 colors, including multicolor:
- Turn the lights on or off: Press and hold the lighting button for 2 seconds.
- Change the lighting pattern: Quick-press the lighting button once.
- Change the light color: Quick-press the lighting button twice in a row to move to another color within the selected pattern.
- Automatic shutoff: The lights turn off automatically 10 minutes after being powered on to preserve battery power.
- Clean the bike: Wipe it carefully with a damp cloth, then dry it with a dry cloth. Do not apply water directly to the product.
- Store the bike: Keep it indoors in a dry place and cover it to protect it from dust. Remove the batteries before extended storage.
Quick troubleshooting
If the seat-clamp latch will not open or close: Use the included 5 mm Allen key to loosen the clamp knob counterclockwise one-half rotation at a time until the latch operates.
If the seat moves during use: Confirm the minimum-insertion mark is below the seat clamp, tighten the clamp knob clockwise, close the latch fully, and check that the seat is secure before riding.
If the wheels do not rotate freely: Check that each wheel is centered between the frame or fork arms and that the axle hardware was installed in the correct order. Stop using the bike and contact Jetson Support if the problem remains.
If the lights do not turn on: Check that 3 AA batteries are installed according to the positive and negative markings, the battery cover is secure, and the lighting button is pressed and held for 2 seconds.
