Welcome, and congratulations on your new Orbit Trio 3-Wheel Light-Up Kick Scooter. This guide walks you through attaching the stem, adjusting the handlebar, installing the batteries, using the lights, and taking the first ride.
Things you need to know
Preparation
- Read the full user manual and all safety warnings before the first ride.
- Adult assembly and supervision are required.
- Confirm the rider is at least 3 years old and weighs no more than 110 lb.
- Have the rider wear an ASTM F1492-approved helmet, protective gear, and closed-toe, flat shoes.
- Choose a smooth, flat riding area away from motor vehicles, water, sand, gravel, dirt, leaves, steep slopes, sharp bumps, drainage grates, and other hazards.
What comes in the box
- Orbit Trio 3-Wheel Light-Up Kick Scooter
- 2-bit tool with Phillips-head screwdriver and 5 mm Allen key
Tools and materials required
- Included 2-bit tool
- 3 AA batteries, not included
Step-by-step setup
- Remove the packaging. Remove all protective packaging pieces before beginning setup.
- Position the stem. Hold the stem over the scooter base with the handlebar at the top and the stem-release button facing the back of the scooter.
-
Attach the stem. Slide the stem down into the stem mount until the stem-release button clicks into the stem-release-button hole. Check that the stem is secure in the scooter base.
Safety: Before every ride, check that the stem is securely attached to the scooter base. - Open the stem clamp. Use the 5 mm Allen key end of the included tool to loosen the stem-clamp knob by turning it counterclockwise, then pull open the stem-clamp latch.
- Adjust the handlebar height. Press in the stem pin and raise or lower the handlebar until the pin clicks into another stem-pin hole.
-
Secure the handlebar. Close the stem-clamp latch. Use the 5 mm Allen key to tighten the knob clockwise, then check that the handlebar is secure.
Important: The stem pin alone will not keep the handlebar secure. The stem clamp must be tightened and closed before every ride. -
Install the batteries. On the underside of the deck, use the Phillips-head screwdriver end of the included tool to turn the battery-cover screw counterclockwise. Remove the cover and insert 3 AA batteries according to the positive and negative markings inside the compartment. Replace the cover, tighten the screw clockwise, and confirm the cover is secure.
Warning: Do not mix old and new batteries or mix alkaline, standard carbon-zinc, and rechargeable batteries. - Complete the pre-ride checks. Confirm the stem, handlebar, stem clamp, wheels, rear foot brake, guards, covers, and fasteners are secure and in serviceable condition. Check that the riding area is safe and that the rider is wearing a properly positioned helmet and protective gear.
- Practice riding. Place one foot on the front of the deck facing forward. Push the other foot against the ground to move the scooter forward, repeating as needed. To coast, place the pushing foot on the rear of the deck at a slight outward angle for stability.
-
Practice lean-to-steer turning. While moving forward, gently shift pressure to the left to turn left or to the right to turn right.
Important: The handlebar does not rotate and the wheels do not turn. A slight shift of pressure on the handlebar causes the moving scooter to veer gently in that direction.Helpful tip: Begin in a wide, open space and practice gentle weight shifts at a controlled speed. -
Practice slowing down and stopping. Press the rear foot brake gently with the rear riding foot to slow down. Apply more pressure to come to a complete stop.
Warning: Applying the brake too hard or too suddenly can lock the wheel and cause a loss of control. The brake may become hot during use; do not touch it with bare skin.
Using the lights and storing the scooter
The Orbit Trio 3-Wheel Light-Up Kick Scooter has battery-powered deck lights and motion-activated wheel lights:
- Turn on the deck lights: Quick-press the lighting button on the underside of the deck.
- Change the lighting pattern: Quick-press the button again to cycle through 11 patterns.
- Turn off the deck lights: Quick-press the button a 12th time, or press and hold it for 3 seconds. The lights also turn off after 5 minutes without use.
- Use the wheel lights: The wheel lights activate automatically when the wheels rotate, even when the deck lights are off.
- Remove the stem: Press and hold the stem-release button, then pull the stem up and out of the stem mount.
- Store the scooter: Keep it indoors in a dry place and cover it to protect it from dust. Remove the batteries before extended storage.
Quick troubleshooting
If the stem-clamp latch will not open or close: Use the included 5 mm Allen key to loosen the stem-clamp knob counterclockwise one-half rotation at a time until the latch operates. Do not overtighten the knob.
If the handlebar feels loose: Check that the stem pin is fully engaged in a stem-pin hole, then close the stem-clamp latch and tighten the knob clockwise with the included 5 mm Allen key.
If the deck lights do not turn on: Check that 3 AA batteries are installed according to the positive and negative markings, the battery cover is secure, and the lighting button is quick-pressed.
If the wheel lights do not turn on: Roll the scooter so the wheels rotate. These lights are motion-activated and operate separately from the deck lights.
