Welcome, and congratulations on your new Peri 2-Wheel Light-Up Kick Scooter. This guide walks you through unfolding the scooter, checking the folding mechanism, attaching and adjusting the handlebar, installing the batteries, using the lights, and taking the first ride.
Things you need to know
Preparation
- Read the full user manual and all safety warnings before the first ride.
- Adult assistance is required for the initial unfolding, handlebar installation and adjustment, and folding procedures.
- Confirm the rider is at least 5 years old and weighs no more than 132 lb.
- Have the rider wear an ASTM F1492-approved helmet, protective gear, and closed-toe, flat shoes.
- Choose a smooth, flat riding area away from motor vehicles, water, sand, gravel, dirt, leaves, steep slopes, sharp bumps, drainage grates, and other hazards.

Step-by-step setup
- Remove the packaging. Remove all protective packaging, including the protective cap at the top of the stem.
-
Unfold the scooter. Pull the folding lever up the down tube. Raise the stem to the upright position until it clicks into place, then release the folding lever. Check that the stem is secure.
Warning: Never ride unless the stem has clicked securely into the upright position. -
Check the folding-mechanism tension. Pull the folding lever and check for some resistance. If the lever is wobbly or moves without resistance, use the included 4 mm Allen key to turn the adjustment bolt on the front of the down tube clockwise. If the scooter cannot fold or unfold, turn the bolt counterclockwise. Test the folding mechanism again and adjust until the tension is correct.
Important: Check the folding mechanism before the first ride and throughout the scooter’s use. Tighten or loosen it as needed. - Remove the handlebar hardware. With the scooter unfolded, use the Phillips-head screwdriver end of the included 2-bit tool to turn the pre-attached handlebar bolt counterclockwise and remove it from the nut in the stem. Hold the nut steady with a finger if needed, then set the bolt and nut aside.
-
Attach the handlebar. Position the handlebar base over the stem so the raised line inside the handlebar base aligns with the indented channel at the top of the stem. Slide the handlebar down and align the hardware holes. From the rider’s position, insert the bolt through the right-side holes, hold the nut in the left-side holes, and tighten the bolt clockwise into the nut with the Phillips-head screwdriver. Confirm the handlebar is secure.
Safety: Before every ride, check that the handlebar bolt and nut are tight and secure. -
Adjust the handlebar height. Open the stem-clamp latch. Use the 5 mm Allen key end of the included tool to loosen the bolt opposite the latch by turning it counterclockwise. Press in the stem pin and raise or lower the handlebar until the pin clicks into another stem-pin hole. Close the latch, tighten the bolt clockwise, and check that the handlebar is secure.
Important: The stem pin alone will not keep the handlebar secure. The stem clamp must be tightened and closed before every ride. -
Install the batteries. On the underside of the deck, use the Phillips-head screwdriver to turn the battery-cover screw counterclockwise. Remove the cover and insert 3 AA batteries according to the positive and negative markings inside the compartment. Replace the cover, reinstall the screw, tighten it clockwise, and confirm the cover is secure.
Warning: Do not mix old and new batteries or mix alkaline, standard carbon-zinc, and rechargeable batteries. - Complete the pre-ride checks. Confirm the stem, folding mechanism, handlebar, stem clamp, wheels, rear foot brake, guards, covers, and fasteners are secure and in serviceable condition. Check that the riding area is safe and that the rider is wearing a properly positioned helmet and protective gear.
-
Practice riding and turning. Place one foot on the front of the deck facing forward and push off the ground with the other foot. To coast, place the pushing foot behind the front foot at a slight angle. Rotate the handlebar left or right to turn.
Helpful tip: Begin in a wide, open space and practice smooth turns at a controlled speed. -
Practice slowing down and stopping. Press the rear foot brake gently with the rear riding foot to slow down. Apply more pressure to come to a complete stop.
Warning: Applying the brake too hard or too suddenly can lock the wheel and cause a loss of control. The brake may become hot during use; do not touch it with bare skin.
Using the lights and storing the scooter
The Peri 2-Wheel Light-Up Kick Scooter has battery-powered deck and stem lights plus motion-activated wheel lights:
- Turn on the deck and stem lights: Quick-press the lighting button on the underside of the deck.
- Change the lighting pattern: Quick-press the button again to cycle through 11 patterns.
- Turn off the deck and stem lights: Quick-press the button a 12th time, or press and hold it for 3 seconds. The lights also turn off after 5 minutes without use.
- Use the wheel lights: The wheel lights activate automatically when the wheels rotate, even when the deck and stem lights are off.
- Fold the scooter: Pull the folding lever up the down tube, lower the stem toward the deck until it clicks into place, release the lever, and check that the stem is secure.
- Store the scooter: Keep it indoors in a dry place and cover it to protect it from dust. Remove the batteries before extended storage.
Quick troubleshooting
If the scooter will not fold or unfold: Use the included 4 mm Allen key to turn the folding-mechanism adjustment bolt counterclockwise, then test the mechanism again. Continue in small adjustments until the correct tension is achieved.
If the folding lever feels loose or wobbly: Use the included 4 mm Allen key to turn the adjustment bolt clockwise, then fold and unfold the scooter to recheck the tension.
If the stem-clamp latch will not open or close: Use the included 5 mm Allen key to loosen the clamp bolt counterclockwise one-half rotation at a time until the latch operates. Do not overtighten the clamp bolt.
If the deck or stem lights do not turn on: Check that 3 AA batteries are installed according to the positive and negative markings, the battery cover is secure, and the lighting button is quick-pressed.
If the wheel lights do not turn on: Roll the scooter so the wheels rotate. These lights are motion-activated and operate separately from the deck and stem lights.
