Welcome, and congratulations on your new Shadow Fat Tire Electric Bike. This guide walks you through unfolding the handlebar, installing the seat and pedals, charging the battery, completing the safety checks, and taking your first ride.
Things you need to know
Preparation
- Read the full user manual and all safety warnings before your first ride.
- Adult assembly and adult supervision are required.
- Confirm the rider is age 14 or older, weighs between 100 lb and 220 lb, and has 1–3 inches of clearance between the crotch and the top tube while straddling the bike with both feet flat on the ground.
- Wear an ASTM F1492-approved helmet, protective gear, and closed-toe, flat shoes.
- Choose a smooth, flat, open riding area away from motor vehicles, water, sand, gravel, dirt, leaves, and other debris.

Step-by-step setup
-
Unfold and secure the handlebar.
Gently raise the handlebar until the stem rests vertically on the frame. Push the folding latch inward until it clicks closed. Rotate the locking ring clockwise around the stem until its tab enters the tab slot on the latch, then confirm the latch cannot be pulled open.
Important: Never ride unless the folding latch is closed and secured by the locking ring.
- Attach and secure the seat. Pull open the seat-clamp latch. Lower the seat post into the seat tube until the “minimum insertion” mark is below the clamp. Hold the seat at the desired height and close the latch. Press down on the seat by hand; if the post slips, reposition it and tighten the clamp knob clockwise before closing the latch again.
-
Attach the pedals.
Align the spindle of the pedal marked “L” with the crank arm on the left side of the bike. Keep the spindle straight, turn it counterclockwise by hand for several rotations, and finish tightening it with the included 15 mm wrench. Repeat on the right side with the pedal marked “R,” turning that spindle clockwise.
Important: The left pedal tightens counterclockwise; the right pedal tightens clockwise. Make sure each pedal enters its crank arm straight.
- Position and secure the bell. Use the Phillips-head screwdriver tip on the multi-tool to loosen the bell-clamp screw by 1–2 counterclockwise rotations. Rotate the bell until the rider can reach it with the left thumb while holding the handlebar, then tighten the screw clockwise.
- Position and secure the front reflector. Rotate the reflector clamp until the reflector faces forward. Slide it toward the center of the handlebar until the clamp is snug on the thicker section. If needed, tighten its screw clockwise with the Phillips-head screwdriver tip.
-
Inflate both tires.
Remove each tire valve’s dust cap and use a manual air pump with a gauge to bring the tire pressure to 35–45 PSI. Reinstall each dust cap after inflation.
Important: Only use a manual air pump. Never use an air compressor, which may cause the tire tubes to pop.
-
Charge the battery.
Connect the charging cable to the charger. Open the charging-port cover, plug the charging cable into a wall outlet, and then connect the charger to the bike. The charger light is red while charging and green when charging is complete. A full charge can take approximately 5 hours. Disconnect the charger from the bike, unplug the cable from the outlet, and close the charging-port cover.
Warning: Charge indoors between 32°F and 104°F. Use only the included charger or the Jetson PJSHDW-CH charger labeled JY-420200. Never turn on the bike while it is charging or leave it charging overnight or for an extended period.
- Adjust the seat for the rider. With the rider seated and one foot on the pedal at its lowest rotation point, check for a small bend in the knee. Open the seat-clamp latch, raise or lower the seat without exposing the “minimum insertion” mark above the clamp, and securely close the latch.
- Complete the pre-ride checks. Confirm that the brakes slow and stop the correct wheels, the frame and fork are undamaged, the pedals and cranks are tight, the handlebar stem and clamps are secure, the locking ring is engaged, and both tires and wheels are in good condition. Check that tire pressure remains between 35 and 45 PSI and that all guards, covers, reflectors, and fasteners are secure.
-
Power on and practice riding.
Raise the kickstand and quick-press the power button. Begin in a safe, open area. You can pedal with motor assistance, pedal with the motor off like a traditional bike, or keep your feet on the pedals and slowly rotate the throttle toward you for motor power. Ease up on the throttle to slow down, and squeeze one or both handbrakes gradually to stop.
Helpful tip: The left handbrake controls the front wheel brake, and the right handbrake controls the rear wheel brake. Rotate the throttle gradually to avoid sudden bursts of speed.
Using the headlight and cruise control
The Shadow Fat Tire Electric Bike has a shared headlight and cruise-control button:
- Headlight: With the bike powered on, press and hold the headlight/cruise-control button for 4 seconds to turn the headlight on or off.
- Cruise control: Use the throttle to reach and maintain your desired speed, then quick-press the headlight/cruise-control button. Release the throttle while keeping your feet on the pedals.
- Cancel cruise control: Gently twist the throttle, squeeze either handbrake, or quick-press the headlight/cruise-control button.
Quick troubleshooting
If the bike does not power on: Fully charge the battery, then quick-press the power button. Check the battery indicator lights after powering on.
If the handlebar or seat will not stay secure: Open the applicable clamp, turn its knob clockwise to tighten it, and close the latch again. If the latch is difficult to close, loosen the knob slightly.
If speed or range is lower than expected: Fully charge the battery and check tire pressure. Rough surfaces, heavier carrying weight, frequent starts and stops, hills, and temperatures outside the ideal 50°F–95°F range can reduce performance.
If a brake feels loose or does not stop the wheel correctly: Do not ride until the brake is adjusted with an applicable tool or inspected with help from the Jetson Care Team.
You are ready to ride
Your Shadow Fat Tire Electric Bike is assembled, charged, and ready for its first ride. Practice accelerating, steering, and braking in a safe open area, keep both feet on the pedals, and complete the safety checks before every ride.
