Welcome, and congratulations on your new Rio Electric Dirt Bike. This guide walks you through assembly, charging, the pre-ride safety check, and preparing for your first supervised ride.
Things you need to know
Preparation
- Adult assembly and adult supervision are required.
- Remove all protective packaging before assembly.
- Read the complete user manual and all safety warnings before use.
- For easier assembly, prop the dirt bike upright on its kickstand.
- The rider must be age 13 or older, weigh between 44 and 140 lb., and have 1–3 inches of clearance between their crotch and the top tube while straddling the bike with both feet flat on the ground.
- Before the first ride, inflate both tires to 31–36 PSI using a manual air pump and check the pressure with a gauge.

Tools required
- The included 4 mm and 6 mm Allen keys
- A manual air pump with a pressure gauge
Always wear an ASTM F1492-approved helmet, protective gear, appropriate clothing, and closed-toe, flat shoes. Never ride on roadways, near motor vehicles, at night, near steep inclines, steps, swimming pools, or other bodies of water. Only one rider may use the dirt bike at a time.
Step-by-step setup
- Attach the front plate. Position the front plate over the mounting plate at the front of the bike. Fit its tabs into place, then use the included 4 mm Allen key to install and tighten the M5 × 8 mm hex screw through the top mounting hole.
- Attach the handlebar. Place the two clamp bases into the recesses on the handlebar mount. Center the handlebar over them, place the two clamp tops over the handlebar, and insert the four M8 × 50 mm hex bolts. Tighten the bolts evenly with the included 6 mm Allen key until the handlebar is secure.
- Attach the foot decks. Remove the two pre-installed M4 × 8 mm screws from the left mounting brackets with the included 4 mm Allen key. Slide the left foot deck onto the brackets, reinstall the screws, and tighten them securely. Repeat on the right side with the right foot deck.

Inflate the tires.
Remove each tire valve’s dust cap, add air with a manual air pump, and use a gauge to bring the pressure to 31–36 PSI. Reinstall each dust cap when finished.
Important:
Only use a manual air pump. Never use an air compressor, which may cause the tire tubes to pop.

Charge the battery.
Before the first use, charge the battery for 4 hours, even if the charger indicator is already green. Open the charging port cover, plug the charger into a wall outlet, and then connect the charging cable to the dirt bike. The charger light is red while charging and green when charging is complete. Disconnect the cable from the bike, unplug the charger from the wall, and close the charging port cover.
Warning:
Charge indoors between 32°F and 104°F. Only use the included charger or the Jetson PJRIO-CH charger labeled FY0424201000. Never turn on the dirt bike while it is charging or leave it charging overnight or for an extended period.
- Complete the pre-ride checks. Make sure the brakes stop the wheels smoothly, the foot decks and handlebar clamps are secure, the frame and fork are undamaged, the handlebar and front wheel rotate in alignment, the tires are in good condition and inflated to 31–36 PSI, and the chain and wheels are clear of debris. Check that all guards and covers are in place and serviceable.

Power on and begin riding.
Raise the kickstand, press and hold the power button for 3 seconds, and start in speed mode 1. With both feet on the foot decks, slowly rotate the acceleration throttle toward you. Hold the throttle steady to maintain speed and gently ease up on it to slow down. Turn by rotating the handlebar left or right.
Helpful tip:
Rotate the throttle gradually. The farther it is rotated, the more the motor engages and the faster the dirt bike travels.
- Practice braking. Gently squeeze the handbrakes to slow down and squeeze more firmly to stop. The left handbrake controls the front wheel brake, and the right handbrake controls the rear wheel brake. Apply the brakes gradually to avoid abrupt movement.
Choosing a speed mode
The Rio Electric Dirt Bike has three speed modes. Toggle the speed mode switch to choose:
- Mode 1: Up to 5 mph
- Mode 2: Up to 7.5 mph
- Mode 3: Up to 14 mph
Do not ride at high speeds, on uneven terrain, or on slopes. Do not perform stunts or turn abruptly.
Quick troubleshooting
If the dirt bike does not power on: Fully charge the battery, then press and hold the power button for 3 seconds.
If speed or run time is lower than expected: Fully charge the battery after every ride. Rough surfaces, heavier loads, frequent starts and stops, hills, and temperatures outside the ideal 50°F–75°F range can reduce performance.
If a brake feels loose: Do not ride until the brake is adjusted with an applicable tool or inspected with help from the Jetson Care Team.
