Welcome, and congratulations on your new Ring Electric Balance Board. The Ring is a compact, foldable, single-wheeled electric ride that is easy to learn: step on, find a neutral balance, and press the under-foot accelerator button to glide. This guide walks you through charging, recalibrating, and taking your first ride.
Things you need to know
Preparation
- Read the full user manual and all safety warnings before your first ride.
- Confirm the rider meets the requirements: age 12 and up, with a weight between 77 lb and 176 lb.
- Have an ASTM F1492–approved helmet and protective gear, such as knee and elbow pads, plus closed-toe, flat shoes.
- Choose a smooth, flat, open surface away from traffic, water, and debris.
What comes in the box
- Ring Electric Balance Board
- Charger
- Charging cable
- Recalibration support piece
Tools required
- None.
Step-by-step setup
-
Charge the battery.
Connect the charging cable to the charger, then open the charging port cover on the board. Plug the charging cable into a wall outlet and plug the charger cord into the board’s charging port. When the indicator light on the charger changes from red to green, the battery is fully charged—this takes about 2 hours. Remove the charger cord from the port, unplug the cable from the outlet, and close the charging port cover.
Important:
Never leave the board charging overnight or for extended periods, and charge only in ambient temperatures between 32°F (0°C) and 104°F (40°C).
-
Recalibrate the board straight out of the box.
Place the board on a flat surface and unfold it about three-quarters of the way to power it on, leaving the back standing platform tilted up at a 45° angle. Place the recalibration support piece under the front standing platform so the platform sits level and parallel to the ground. While pressing and holding the accelerator button, lower the back platform all the way down until the accelerator button glows green and you hear five beeps (about 3 seconds), then release the button.
Important:
Do not lean on or apply weight to the board during recalibration. It may take a few attempts to fully reset the internal balance. Recalibrate again any time the board beeps constantly or the wheel spins on its own.
-
Power on the board.
Set the board on your riding surface, gently pull the two standing platforms apart, and lower them until they are horizontal and you hear a series of beeps.
Warning:
Never power on the board while it is charging, as this can damage the battery and electrical system.
Important:Always set the board on your riding surface before powering it on or pressing the accelerator button.
-
Mount the board.
With the board powered on, tilt it toward the back standing platform so the back edge rests on the ground. From one side, place your back foot on the back standing platform, then lift your front foot onto the front standing platform. Slowly shift your weight toward the front until the back edge lifts off the ground and the board balances on the wheel.
Safety:
Always put on your helmet and protective gear before mounting.
Warning:Never mount a board that is powered off. Without power, the internal balance system will not work and you could fall.
-
Ride.
While balancing on the wheel, press the accelerator button with your front foot and shift your body weight in the direction you want to go: forward to move ahead, back to reverse, and right or left to turn. To slow down, shift your weight back toward center; to stop, release the accelerator button.
Important:
Keep your body upright and use your hips to shift your weight—do not lean.
Warning:If the board beeps continuously, you are near top speed. Reduce your speed for safer riding.
- Dismount. Release the accelerator button to come to a stop. Use your feet to tilt the board toward your toes until your toes rest on the ground edge, then carefully step off.
Using the headlights
The Ring has a pair of built-in headlights to help keep you visible in low-light conditions. To turn the headlights on or off, quick-press the accelerator button four times in a row.
Always set the board on your riding surface before powering it on or pressing the accelerator button.
Quick troubleshooting
If the board beeps only while you are riding: the motor is being overworked or the wheel is blocked. Power off the board for 30 minutes to let the motors cool, and clear any debris from around the wheel. Move to a smooth, flat surface and keep the carrying weight under 176 lb.
If the board beeps constantly even when you are not riding: the battery may be low, or the internal balance may need resetting. Recharge the board, and recalibrate it if the beeping continues.
If the board slows down or tilts while you ride: the battery has likely dropped below 10%. Recharge the board fully before your next ride.
If the board will not power on: the battery may have no charge, the board may need recalibrating, or the charger may not be working. Recharge and recalibrate the board; if the charger’s light does not illuminate during charging, replace the charger.
You are ready to ride
That is it—your Ring is charged, calibrated, and ready to go. Start slow on a smooth, open surface until you are comfortable balancing and controlling your speed, and always ride with your helmet and protective gear on. Be safe and have fun!
