How to install the basket on my e-bike

We can’t contain our excitement about our e-bikes—but we can help contain your stuff, thanks to our specially designed and spacious bike baskets.

If you've got the basket specifically designed for our Haze Folding Electric Bike, instructions can be found in that basket's user manual. 

Our other rear basket, and a front basket, are compatible with several of our e-bike models—and installing them requires a little extra tweaking so it's a snug fit. Read on for the how-to on those.

Rear basket

Our rear bike basket is compatible with several Jetson e-bikes, including the Atlas, Axle, Bolt, Bolt Pro, Bolt Up, J5, J8, and LX10.

The box you received should include the following bits and pieces: 

• 1 basket 
• 1 black “U”-shaped mounting bracket 
• 2 long black bracket extenders 
• 1 “O”-shaped clamp
• 1 clamp quick-release skewer (may be pre-assembled on the clamp or come in separate pieces, which include a skewer with latch, black knob, and rounded black washer.)
• 1 circular sizing ring to fit inside the clamp 
• 1 long bolt 
• 2 medium bolts 
• 6 short bolts*
• 3 nuts 
• 6 small washers* 
• 6 medium washers*

*(If you have a few extra pieces of these in your box, they’re just spares.)

You’ll also need the following tools, some of which may have come with your bike or basket:

• 10mm spanner wrench
• 3mm Allen Key
• 4mm Allen Key
• And, depending on which e-bike you have, perhaps a larger Allen key (more on that in section 2 of the assembly)

When you’ve got everything you need, go grab your bike! You’ll need that, too.

Here are the instructions: 

1. Attach the 2 bracket extenders to the basket 
   
   
   1. Place the basket upside down on a flat surface. Note that there are 2 tabs with holes extending upwards from the center of the basket and 2 tabs with holes extending out from the front rim of the basket. Position the upside-down basket so that the front (with those extending tabs) is facing you. 
   2. Grab the 2 mounting bracket extenders (long black metal pieces, each with 3 different sized holes through the middle of them), the 2 medium-sized bolts, 4 medium washers, and 2 nuts. Slide 1 washer onto the stem of each bolt. 
   3. Position one bracket extender next to the inner side of one tab tabs extending upwards from the underside of the basket such that the following conditions are met:
      1. The smallest hole in the extender is aligned with the hole in that tab.
      2. The extender is between the two tabs.
   4. From the outer side of that tab, insert one bolt/washer combo through the tab hole and aligned extender hole.
   5. Slide another washer onto the end of that inserted bolt, and then twist on one of the nuts on clockwise using your fingers. Do not fully tighten it yet.
   6. Repeat steps 1.3 – 1.5 with the other extender and other tab. The extenders should be attached but loose enough to move.
   7. Set the basket with semi-attached extenders to the side.
      
      
2. Attach the “U”-shaped bracket to the bike
   
   Now let’s turn your attention to your bike.
   
   
   1. Find an Allen key appropriately sized for the bolt holding on your bike’s rear fender. Loosen the bolt securing the rear wheel fender to the bike by turning it clockwise with the Allen key. If your bike is one with a nut on the end of the bolt (through the other side of the frame piece), you’ll have to use a wrench to hold that nut steady while you loosen the nut.  
   2. Remove all the hardware (bolt, washer, and nut—if there is one), as well as the rear fender. Set these pieces to the side. 
   3. Grab the large black “U”-bracket and align the hole in the center of it with the hole on the bike from which you just removed the fender, such that the following conditions are met:
      1. One arm of the bracket is on the left and one is on the right side of the center hole.
      2. The bracket arms are pointed diagonally upwards towards the back of the bike. 
   4.  Hold the bracket in place and position the fender back in its correct place, so that the hole on the fender attachment point is over the aligned holes of the bike frame and bracket.
   5. Re-attach the fender (with bracket now, too) using the same hardware and tools. Make sure all pieces are securely fastened.
      
      Important: Be careful not to over-tighten the bolt, which could crack the fender attachment tab.
      
      
3. Attach the “O”-clamp onto the seat post 
   
   Next, we’ll get the basket clamp onto your bike. On some models, the clamp will come with the quick-release skewer (with curved washer, latch, and knob) already assembled onto it. If yours is already pre-assembled, you can skip to step 3.3.
   
   
   1. Slide the rounded black washer onto the skewer such that the curve of the washer nestles around the rounded base of the latch. Slide the skewer with washer through the two holes in the two parallel tabs on the clamp, beginning with the one furthest from the other single tab.
   2. Twist the knob clockwise onto the end of the skewer until it is securely on but not fully tight. Set the clamp aside. 
   3. On your bike, open the seat clamp latch and turn the clamp knob counterclockwise to loosen the clamp. Pull the seat up until the seat post emerges from the frame.
   4. Slide the sizing ring all the way up the seat post, leading with the edge that has a rim.
   5. Grab the basket clamp that you put to the side. Pull open the latch on the clamp and loosen the knob by turning it counterclockwise.
   6. Slide the clamp up the post and onto the sizing ring, until it completely encloses the ring. Slightly tighten the clamp around the ring by turning the knob clockwise. 
   7. With that clamp on the seat post, re-insert the post back into the seat tube and re-position the seat for riding. (More instructions on how to attach a bike seat can be found here.) 
   8. Rotate the basket clamp around the seat post until the single tab extending from it is pointed towards the rear of the bike. Secure it there by closing the latch on the clamp. (You may also have to tighten the knob on the clamp a little more.)
      
      
4. Attach the basket to the basket clamp.
   
   
   1. From the remaining hardware, slide a medium washer onto the longest bolt.
   2. Grab the basket. Position it upright over the rear fender and slide it forward so that the two tabs extending from the front of it go on either side of the single tab on the basket clamp. Ensure that the holes in all three tabs are aligned. 
   3. Slide the bolt with washer through all 3 tab holes from either side.
   4. Slide another medium washer onto the end of the bolt, and then twist a nut on clockwise using your fingers. Use the wrench to hold the nut steady while you fully tighten the bolt into it by turning it clockwise with the 4mm Allen Key.
      
      
5. Connect the “U”-bracket with the 2 bracket extenders 
   
   
   1. Rotate the bracket extenders on the underside of the basket so towards the bracket arms coming off of the fender area. Position the extenders on the outer sides of the arms, overlapping them with the bracket arms as much as possible.
   2. Depending on your bike model, the height of your bike seat, and the positioning of the basket bracket, your overlap may allow you to secure the two pieces together with 1, 2, or 3 screws on each side. Determine the number of hardware insertion points that your set-up allows by looking to see how many of the singular small bracket holes you can align with the larger holes in the bracket extenders. (maximum 3 per side)
      Troubleshooting: If your bracket extenders cannot overlap with the bracket arms, return to section 3 of these instructions, and change the height of the basket clamp on the seat post to change the positioning of the basket.
   3. Slide 1 washer onto 1 small bolt for each available hardware insertion point. 
   4. Working from the outside in, insert (but do not fully tighten) a small bolt with washer through each hardware insertion point by finger-turning it clockwise.
   5. Once all bolts are partially inserted, use the 3mm Allen key to fully insert and then tighten all of them. 
   6. Use the 4mm Allen key and 10mm wrench to fully tighten the hardware in tabs “c” on the underside of the basket, where the basket is connected to the extenders.
   7. Check that the basket elements are securely fastened to one another, and that the basket is securely attached to the bike. Congrats! You’ve done it.

Front bike basket 

Our front bike basket is compatible with the Jetson Atlas, Atlas Pro, Axle, Axle X, Bolt, Bolt X, Bolt Pro, Bolt Pro Max, Bolt Pro X, Bolt Up, Haze, J5, J8, LX10, and Shadow e-bikes.  

Getting this one onto your bike takes very little work.

1. If your basket has a Velcro strap wrapped around the vertical posts on the back of the basket, pull open the strap.
2. Hold the basket in front of your bike’s handlebar stem such that the stem is between the two hooks.
3. Slip the metal hooks under and then onto the handlebars so that the basket is in front of the handlebars.
4. Wrap the ends of the Velcro strap around the stem and fasten them together.

Notes:

• Depending on your bike model, you may need to do some maneuvering around wires, bell clamps, etc.—and you may need to use some force to get it around and onto the handlebar. In some cases, you might have to adjust the positioning of the handlebar in the handlebar clamp to rotate the handbrakes out of the way.
• If your basket is shifting to the right and left while you ride, you may need to adjust the Velcro strap so that they are wrapped around the innermost vertical supports on the basket, instead of the outermost vertical supports, minimizing the extra space between the strap and the bike stem.
