When you want to ride, you really want to ride. Make sure your e-bike is as ready as you are by keeping its battery charged—and in good condition. Here’s how:
Powering up pointers
Our e-bikes contain small but mighty Lithium-Ion batteries. Proper care and maintenance can keep your battery in good condition for the long term. Here, some best-practice battery care tips:
- Only use the charger included with your bike—or a model-specific replacement that you’ve acquired through us. (Don’t see what you need online? Contact us!) Other chargers may seem to work, but using a charger that’s not perfectly compatible with your product could be detrimental to long-term battery health.
- Never power on your e-bike while it is charging.
- Charge your e-bike in environments with an air temperature between 32° F (0° C) and 113°F (45°C).
- Always charge your e-bike to full battery capacity and unplug it when it’s done: Do not leave it charging overnight or for extended periods of time.
- Before storing your bike for long-term stretches, fully charge your bike—and then charge it again once a month until you resume regular riding. If your bike has a removable battery, take it out before storing the bike.
When to charge
Give any new e-bike a good charging session after you unbox and assemble it. Then, pay attention to your battery charge level anytime you take an adventure. Depending on which Jetson e-bike you have, battery charge level will either be displayed on an LCD screen or with the illumination of dedicated battery indicator lights.
- Jetson e-bikes with LCD screen battery displays -
Adventure - Charge when only four bars are left on the Energy Bar.
Journey, J8, Metro, and Warren – Charge when the battery icon on the screen is ¼ full. - Jetson e-bikes with battery indicator lights -
Axle, Bolt, Bolt Pro, Bolt Up, Haze, J5, and LX10 – There are four battery indicator lights on the right side of the handlebar; when only one remains illuminated, battery charge has dropped to less than 25%. It’s time to plug in and power up!
How to charge
Depending on your model, your charger will either exist as one piece, with the AC cable permanently affixed—or as two, in which case you’ll need to manually insert the AC cable into a slot on charger.
Always plug the charger into the wall outlet before plugging it into it the battery charging port on your bike. Here’s where you’ll find the charging port on our e-bikes:
- Near the foot pegs or pedals – Axle, Bolt, Bolt Pro, Bolt Up, LX10, and Metro
- Near the front wheel – J5
- Near the folding point in the middle of the frame - Haze and Warren
- Near the headlights – Adventure, Journey, and J8
(Note: The battery for the J8, Haze, and Warren is removable and can be charged both while it’s installed inside the bike or outside of it. More info on the Haze is here; look here for the J8; info on the Warren is here.)
The indicator light on your charger will tell you when your bike’s battery has reached full charge. Here’s how that indicator light works:
- When you plug the charger into the wall outlet, the light will illuminate in a green color to tell you it’s receiving electricity.
- For most of our e-bikes, that indicator light will turn red once the charger is plugged into the bike and charging is in process.
- When charging is complete, the indicator light will return to green. When that happens, unplug the charger from both the bike and the wall outlet.
Charging times
Knowing how long it takes for your bike’s battery to charge can help you stay prepared for adventure. Remember to unplug it promptly after it’s done.
- Up to four hours – Axle, Bot Pro, Bolt Up, LX10, and Metro
- Up to five hours – Bolt, Haze, and J5
- Up to six hours – Adventure, Journey, J8, and Warren (Note to Adventure owners: For your first three charging sessions, leave the bike charging for 12 hours.)
